AVG 2012 Not Able To Recognize License Number

A friend of mine was having trouble with her laptop. She is using AVG 2012 for her anti-virus software. When she tried to update her virus definitions, the following error comes up on the AVG user interface.

"AVG is not able to recognize your license number".

My friend no longer knew her license number since she installed the program months ago and she was merely using the free edition from download.com.

I searched on Google and most sites recommended a complete re-installation of the program. To me, it seemed strange that freeware was asking for a genuine license. Shouldn't that be implicit when you are using the software freely? But as I would find out later on during the re-installation process, the license number is shown during the installation and I would advice that anyone installing AVG take note of this number and write down a copy of it in case the error above comes up again.

So in order to fix this problem, I would recommend the following steps.
  1. For computers using the x32 version, ownload a copy of AVG 2012's offline installer from here. The size of the file is 137 MB so you might want to grab a snack while waiting. The reason I'm recommending downloading the offline installer is because a lot of things can happen if you have an unreliable internet connection like mine. And an intermittent connection can result in a corrupted installation. You can also check the links from this website.
  2. Once you have the file downloaded to your desktop, double click it and follow the instructions. Choose the "Repair" option if possible. What this does based on my understanding is it only checks the existing installation for corrupted files and will only replace those files. This process should be faster rather than doing a complete re-installation. You also get to retain previous updates that AVG might have applied after it was installed.
  3. The last step is to update AVG. Again, for people with intermittent connections, I would recommend a manual (offline) update. Go to AVG's webpage for manual updates. Download all the files that is applicable to your AVG installation. Then choose the option to update from a directory location, and browse to the folder where you stored the downloaded files.

That's it, you should be good to go. I hope this guide is helpful to anyone having problems with AVG.

Alteil: Fierce

Alteil launched 2 new EX cards a couple of days ago. One is High Lava Giant / Bolbaron, and the other is the focus of today's post, Roar of Pain / Fierce. Alteil also made Catira and Rileira available in the card shop as half-boxes for 1000 gran per pack. If you are trying to complete a Catira Set, this would be an opportunity to do so. That card is a must have for Refess players who want to be competitive in the current Folrart environment. But I digress.

So let's take a look at Fierce.

In my opinion, cards like Fierce are gimmick cards. They are intended for specific types of decks, and in this case, Fierce is so specific to a Wild Dog deck. So if you are the type of player who can afford to burn money, then popping 3000 gran for a set might not be an issue for you. You'll be one of the few players who has access to a Wild Dog deck, and will probably have that proud feeling of not running meta like most of the crowd.

There are only 5 wild dog cards in the game to date, including Fierce. His open skill Fierce Howl is useful for both Shadow Hound (Start Skill will deal 50 damage to a random enemy unit when focused) and Summoned Hound (Auto Skill will deal 40 damage to a random enemy unit when focused).

If combined with "battletime night" cards, Fierce is able to auto heal, and his stats become boosted tremendously. If Black Hound Master is in play, AGI ant ATK get +10 boosts. So you have a possible AGI=5, ATK=60, HP=70 front liner. His Scar Strike skill is not limited by his range, and if the opponent has cards with 10 HP or lower like salamander, sylph or shade, Fierce gets rid of that for you too.

I've yet to encounter a player in Folrart using Fierce. But the promise of having a unique deck awaits those who are willing to invest in him.

Restaurant City: How to Earn Coins

It's 2012 and its time for an update on the different methods a free player (player who doesn't use real money for game items) to earn in Restaurant City legitimately.

With the exception of the Retro Arcade, shown below are the different items that a player can purchase in order to have extra income aside from payment from dining customers.

Here's a table showing the statistics for each item, including the Retro Arcade machine.

So based on the data above, which do you think is the best item to buy for earning? I hope you can figure it out. Have fun testing it out too!!!

Ikariam Island with Multiple Resources

Having played Ikariam for a long time, I've wondered why the developers have never incorporated islands with multiple resources in the game. Perhaps it will make the game more complicated to program, but in my opinion, it will also increase the amount of interaction in the game, especially when players start to jockey for the best islands. If I were a developer, then the new island options would be as follows.

Island with 2 resource combinations:

  • Wine - Crystal
  • Wine - Sulfur
  • Wine - Marble
  • Marble - Sulfur
  • Marble - Crystal
  • Sulfur - Crystal
Island with 3 resource combinations:
  • Wine - Crystal - Sulfur
  • Wine - Crystal - Marble
  • Wine - Sulfur - Marble
  • Sulfur - Crystal - Marble
Island with 4 resource combination:
  • Wine - Sulfur - Marble - Crystal
The 4 resource combination island would probably be fought for frequently by alliances. I also think that the 3-resource combination of Wine - Sulfur - Marble would be the next most valuable island. Players might even pay more ambrosia just to transfer their existing towns onto one of these islands.

I have excluded Lumber for brevity, but you can probably surmise how the combinations would increase if wood was included.

Wouldn't it be nice if Ikariam developers would be able to read this post and include this idea in Ikariam 2012. What do you readers think? ^_^

Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia

Spoiler Alert: (You have been warned)

After what has seemed like an eternity of waiting, the best current-day adaptation of Shelock Holmes is back for a second season. And even if this season will only be 3 episodes long, if the making is as good as the first, then the wait would have been worth it.

While Moriarty and Microft are still in this first episode for season two, it's focus is really on Irene Adler, but unlike her character in Mr. Conan Doyle's novels. I'll leave the details to the TV show.

What puzzles me though is the last part, where Sherlock rescues Irene Adler from her death, instructs her to run, and Sherlock ends the scene happy. I am still unsure if that part is merely wishful thinking on Sherlock's part (a what if scenario), but in reality, Adler is really dead.

The reason I think Adler is really dead is that it would have been unlikely that Holmes would have been following her all over the world, and rescuing her at the moment she needed him. Besides, Holmes never leaves England. And Adler died in some Arabian country. So my interpretation of that last scene, is Holmes trying to imagine what it would have been like to be Adler's hero.

What do you think? If your a fan of the show, tell me your opinion ^_^

Notion by Angela Spear

I love the song Notion by Kings of Leon. And while I was browsing for cover songs on YouTube, I happened to land on this video by Angela Spear, and I was quite impressed by her ability to play all instruments and do all the vocal parts. She did a pretty good job, being a one-woman band. Check it out!!!

If you want to, try comparing it with the original Notion video by KOL.

Alteil Set 10: Emana

The 5-star card for Falkow in Set 10 is Princess of the Key / Emana. One would think that since she's a mermaid. she would be great for mermaid decks. But ever since set 10 has been out, I have seen Emana become a critical part of an Eternal Morning Deck and even a Mystere deck. Let's check out her stats and skills and see why this card is very versatile.

For a level 3 Falkow card, HP of 60 will always suggest some kind of tank. And I have seen this in an Emana Mystere based deck where Emana is buffed and protects Mystere. And Emana's Start Skill, Mermaid Water Enchantment, is great for Mystere decks since she gives most enemy cards AGI values of 0 and below. Ordinary Mystere returns a card with AGI 0 or below for 2 SP while EX Mystere deals 60 HP damage to a card with AGI 0 or below. So the synergy is similar to a Dion-Enormous Frog combo except Mystere has an AGI of 3 while Dion has an AGI of 1 and randomly returns an engaged card. Pinpointing is better with Emana and Mystere.

For Eternal Morning Decks, and I would suspect, any deck with a lot of units below level 3, Emana's Mage Jewel Aurora Orb Action Skill is great for surviving a field wipe from cards such as Allind, Ball of Flame or Roar of the Flame Emperor. Her 60 HP allows her to survive Allind, and for 1 SP, she revives all closed friendly units.

Finally, her Fey Blade Meliae Action Skill can be used in tandem with her Start Skill to kill off opponents with AT values higher than their HP. Say Astaforse already has an attack power greater than 70 HP at the start of the turn and has not modified her HP, Emana can use the opponent's strength against themselves, kinda like a martial arts master.

This card is even great as a Soul Skill since you can replace Rasam SS with it. Most times, just engaging a single critical unit is enough to foil your opponent's plans and Emana gives you SP that might be crucial for the next turn.

Overall, Emana is a great card, deserving of its 5-star rating. Get her while she's hot!!!
