G. I. Joe Retaliation 2013

Spoiler Alert: Read at your own risk if you haven't seen the movie yet!

This movie is probably better than the first. It is the best action movie of 2013 so far.

Some of the things that I liked about the movie are

  • Death of Duke
  • Ninja fight scene ala Sky Commanders
  • The way the G.I. Joe and Cobra toys were portrayed in the movie
  • Firefly's portrayal
  • Storm Shadow's redemption
One disappointing thing for me in the movie was the lack of a babe like Sienna Miller. The actresses they hired to play Lady Jane and Jinx were "too manly". Granted, these are hardened soldiers, and they have to be tough.

Another thing I hated was the portrayal of Flint. They made the guy a parkour specialist. But Flint was a leader just like Duke, General Hawk, etc., but instead they make Roadblock the leader in this movie. The Rock plays a better Roadblock than they guy in the first movie though. But back to Flint, they should have used a different G. I. Joe character to play wing man. (Could have used Shipwreck, Lifeline, etc.) They probably wanted to play the love angle with Lady Jane, but like I said previously, no romantic relationship will blossom with that "man".

And as for Bruce Willis, you're either a fan or your not. And for someone retired and extremely dangerous, (RED), I thought he was an o.k. addition to the franchise. They can probably kill him if ever there was a third installment.

Watch the movie!!! Peace!!!

Miami Heat 2013 Winning Streak

Winning NBA Championships gets people talking about an NBA team. But beating long-standing records immortalizes an NBA team in the annals of basketball history. The last time I witnessed an amazing feat such as this was during the 1996 Chicago Bulls 72 season wins, beating the long standing 69 wins notched by the Los Angeles Lakers. And this 2013 Miami team is something special. They have already taken over the 2nd spot for longest ever winning streak in NBA history. Can they break the 33 wins also tallied by the Lakers?

At the time of this writing, Miami has logged 23 straight wins, beating the 22 wins registered by the Houston Rockets in the 2007-2008 season. But the Los Angeles team of the 1971-72 NBA season still holds the best record at 33 wins. (Check out the winning steak records here). Miami still has 16 games to go in the regular season. If it wins the next ten games (Check the Heat Schedule here), it can tie the best record. And if by chance, it makes it to Milwaukee with its winning record in tack, and beats the Bucks on April 9, 2013, then Miami would have broken the record.

There is no doubt that the Big Three of Miami, namely Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh are the major reason this Miami team is accomplishing so much this season. And having Lebron James, undoubtedly the best basketball player in the league at the moment is a big confidence booster for any team.

But it is also the addition of key support players both in this season and in the previous ones, that has helped gradually strengthen this team. Players like Ray Allen, Mike Miller, Shane Battier, Rashard Lewis, and Chris Andersen come to mind. And even long-time players like Mario Chalmers, Udonis Haslem, and Norris Cole, continue to give their best for the team.

Erik Spoesltra, the coaching staff, and the trainers are also doing a tremendous job. Having the 2nd-longest winning streak in history is already a big achievement. But to be immortalized, people will still use 33 as the bar between good and great. Still, if there is an NBA team that can be considered worthy enough to challenge that record, it is the current Miami roster, and I wish them well and hope they can beat it.

Did Jesus ever say that He is God?

Some religious groups who claim to know the Bible say that Jesus was only a great prophet, and was not God. If that were the case, why are the terms he, him, my, myself, capitalized into He, Him, My, Myselfwhenever Jesus is speaking or referred to in the middle of a sentence, a privilege in the Bible only for God. Prophets like Moses for example were great Bible prophets and yet they do not enjoy the capitalization privilege in the Bible.

Take a look at some verses from Exodus chapter 3:

1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush.
Now, contrast this with a Bible passage where Jesus is speaking, say in John chapter 8:

19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Menor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.”
Now, some people might say that this is merely a matter of formatting that differs in each Bible version. Let us then look at some verses where Jesus Himself implied that He was God.

Let us look at John chapter 8 once again.

54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; 55 and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57 So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” 59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.
In this passage, Jesus says that before Abraham was born, I am. Jesus is saying that He existed before Abraham. People who deny Jesus as God will logically question His age. Only God is Eternal, He is the Alpha and the Omega, He has no beginning and no end. Jesus is therefore God since He says He existed before Abraham.

This was also the reason why the Jews wanted to stone Jesus. They understood that right there and then, Jesus was claiming to be God, which according to Jewish law, was blasphemy.

This can be found in Leviticus chapter 24:
16 Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.
So either the Jews were right or Jesus was right. Either Jesus was only a mere man as the Jews claim, or Jesus is indeed God.

Let's look at another verse from John chapter 8.
51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.”
Can any mere man guarantee exemption from death or eternal life? And why does Jesus say My word, instead of God's word or My Father's word. Surely, a mere man's word is not equal with God, who alone can promise eternal life.

The Bible is filled with many more verses that prove the Jesus Christ is God. And if you are searching for answers, pray to Him for guidance as you read the Bible, that He may reveal the truth to you.

My friend, if you do not believe that Jesus is God, I hope that you seek Him with all your heart that He may reveal the truth to you. Only He can convince you. May the Lord bless you.

Cancer is so limited...

An enthusiastic believer in Christ, Dan Richardson, lost his battle with cancer. But his life demonstrated that even though the physical body may be destroyed by disease, the spirit can remain triumphant. This poem was distributed at his memorial service:

Cancer is so limited…

It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot eat away peace,
It cannot destroy confidence,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot shut out memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot reduce eternal life,
It cannot quench the Spirit,
It cannot lessen the power of the Resurrection.
